Chamba’s beauty is akin to a picture postcard thanks to the location in the midst of picturesque and verdant valleys. With an average altitude of 1,006 meters or 3,300 feet, Chamba is spread on the banks of Ravi and its tributary Sal River with Shah Madar hill as the backdrop on the eastern side.


Chamba is in the sub-Himalayan range of mountains with great diversity in its flora and fauna. It gives the visitor an exhilarating experience. The hill station has a number of temples of repute mainly for its craftsmanship. The famous shrines are Champavati, Sui Mata, Vijreshwari, and Chamunda Devi.

History

Chamba was founded by Raja Shail Verman who named it after his daughter Champavati. The Rajput rule in the 6th century was followed by many kingdoms until it came into the hands of Mughal and Sikh Kings.

BEST TIME TO VISIT IN CHAMBA HIMACHAL

The best time to visit Chamba is from April to October. To avoid a heavy summer rush the season between April and June or between August and October will be fine.

Around Mid-July Minjar Fair gets organized, which is popular amongst tourists and locals alike.

By Air: The nearest airport Gaggal is at a distance of 170 km. From there taxis and buses connect to Chamba. By Rail: The nearest railhead is Pathankot, some 115 km away. By Road: Chamba can be reached from any part of the state

Winter: During winter, the temperature can go to freezing points because of cold winds. Summer: It will be hot in summer and the temperature will soar up to 38 degrees
